DYSLEXIA

Dyslexia is a neurologically-based, often familial, disorder which interferes with the acquisition and processing of language. Varying in degrees of severity, it manifests in receptive and expressive language, including phonological processing, in reading, writing, spelling, handwriting, and sometimes in arithmetic.

 

SYMPTOMS/SIGNS OF DYSLEXIA

• STRUGGLES WITH SPELLING WORDS OR MISSPELLS WORDS
• SLOW READER OR OMITS WORDS WHEN READING
• DIFFICULTY GETTING THOUGHTS DOWN ON PAPER
• POOR ILLEGIBLE HANDWRITING
• SIGNIFICANT DIRECTIONALITY CONFUSION
• DIFFICULTY MEMORIZING FACTS THAT ARE NOT PERSONALLY INTERESTING OR RELEVANT
• DIFFICULTY TELLING TIME ON A CLOCK WITH HANDS
• CO-EXISTING CONDITIONS CAN INCLUDE ADHD OR SCOTOPIC (LIGHT) SENSITIVITY
• MESSY BEDROOMS
• DIFFICULTY SEQUENCING STEPS IN A TASK

 

PLEASE KNOW THAT NOT ALL SIGNS OR SYMPTOMS ARE PREVALENT IN ALL CASES OF DYSLEXIA. THESE ARE JUST A FEW KNOWN SIGNS OR SYMPTOMS THAT HAVE BEEN EXHIBITED IN PEOPLE WITH DYSLEXIA BUT THIS DOES NOT MEAN YOU WILL HAVE ALL OF THEM.
